Various diets and treatments - the schlenz method (baths of increasing temperature) - introduction VARIOUS DIETS AND TREATMENTS - THE SCHLENZ METHOD (BATHS OF INCREASING TEMPERATURE) - INTRODUCTION
I once met the old high school teacher Rudolf Schlenz in Innsbruck and shortly afterwards discussed the Schlenz method with his son, Dr J. Schlenz. My conversations with these two men conveyed to me some of the spirit of the late Maria Schlenz, who had developed this type of hot water therapy.
Mrs Schlenz was neither a medical doctor nor a naturopath, but a simple housewife and mother. She had, however, an appreciation for nature and a gift for observation. In caring for her children she realised that they were too delicate to benefit from Kneipp's cold water treatment, so she thought of giving them hot water treatments instead. Some doctors had given baths of increasing temperature (Uberwarmungsbader in German) with good results even before she began to use them and continued to do so after the introduction of her method, but orthodox medicine in her native country paid no attention to her experience.
